What Is a Yeti?
A Yeti is a legendary ape-like creature said to live high in the snowy Himalayan Mountains of Asia. It is typically described as a large, powerful humanoid covered in thick fur — capable of surviving some of the harshest conditions on Earth.
Unlike many mythical beings, the Yeti is often considered a cryptid — a creature that some people believe might exist even though there is no scientific proof. Stories about Yetis have been passed down for generations by Sherpa communities and other people living in the Himalayas.
Outside the Himalayas, the Yeti became widely known by the nickname The Abominable Snowman, a name that has captured imaginations around the world for over a century.
The Yeti stands alongside the werewolf, the basilisk, and the centaur as one of the most famous legendary creatures of all time. Explore the full mythical creatures guide to discover more.
